I can easily imagine ways to improve Evernote it's far from perfect, but as a student I still haven't found anything that beats it in the same price range - though as some have noted, Onenote is the obvious competitor to check out.īut it would be worth thinking out what you want it for - if it's just saving files for future reference, then Dropbox is still great, as is GDrive, as is Onedrive. And if you happen to have a pen-enabled device, that's honestly where Microsoft really shines above the rest. I personally feel like your money would be better spent as a student on a Microsoft 365 Personal or Family subscription, which buys you a ridiculous amount of useful stuff, from 1 TB of OneDrive storage to all the best that all the Office apps have to offer. For example, you can't edit anything you've encrypted and have to decrypt it first, then edit, and encrypt it again, which entirely defeats the point of the encryption feature I've used since day 1 over a decade ago. I currently use it on Android and Windows, but some of the features I've relied on for years being literally disabled have gotten me to look elsewhere.
I still personally use it because I've been using it for well over a decade (I first started using it when I got my first iPhone and needed a way to seamlessly sync across iOS and Windows), but there are now loads of other options. and paid users are the most affected by a lot of the feature degradation / removal. If you're not already invested heavily in Evernote, you should know that it really took a bit of a nosedive recently, and its greatest features have been seriously degraded.
